Steve Tomanchek

Have you ever met someone that has a twinkle in their eye when they talk about what they do for a living? Well, you will see that twinkle in Steve’s eyes when he talks about The Media Hawk Group. Originally from Charlotte, NC and living in Louisville, KY since 2016, Steve has been influenced by and learned from so many business owners across countless industries and some of the greatest creative advertising minds in the business. He created The Media Hawk Group to share this knowledge to help businesses grow and thrive by taking their advertising to a higher level.

Steve’s influential journey in business started with his family. Being the youngest of 5 children, son of a Rajun Cajun mom and a “legendary” baseball and football Coach father, and playing D-1 college baseball fueled the competitive fire and God-following direction in his life to chart a successful path.  After a 3 year run with General Mills, Inc. as a Sales Rep in Southwestern Virginia and short run as a Sporting Goods Manufacturers Rep, Steve got into the advertising business at WJZY-TV in Charlotte where he cut his teeth in the world of media. After 6 years at WJZY, Steve and a high school friend started Big Sky Ice Company in Charlotte.  Steve bought out his partner early in their venture allowing his wife Mitzi to come on as his partner in the business. With clients like Carolina Panthers Stadium, CBS Sports, FOX Sports, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Phillip Morris, PGA and Wells Fargo Championship, multiple convenience stores and restaurants, Steve and Mitzi learned to navigate business at a high-level. The thrill of the media business and starting a family prompted Steve to sell Big Sky Ice Company and get back into television as a Regional Sales Executive with The WB station in Greensboro NC. He then went to WBTV, the CBS station in Charlotte where he climbed the ranks into sales management and was asked to lead the sales department at WAVE, the NBC station in Louisville, KY  where he stayed for 6 years.

Steve was not only involved with sales, he also collaborated on and helped produce the TV shows “Cook That Ish” starring Darnell SuperChef Ferguson and the high school football highlight show, “GAME ON” with former University of Louisville and Super Bowl winners Chris Redman and Deion Branch along with Kentucky high school Hall of Famer Bob Redman and award-winning Sports Director Kent Taylor.  After almost 20 years back in the world of Broadcast TV and digital sales, Steve had the calling to again start his own company and The Media Hawk Group took flight in February of 2022.

His 30+ years of being in and around the media and advertising business has given him the inside track on how and why advertising works and this is the knowledge he wants to put to work for his clients. As a former NCAA Division 1 college baseball player and son of a coach, Steve is very competitive and wants his clients to WIN!  The desire to help and give back will be one of the things you will discover about Steve once you meet him, plus the fact he is a snazzy dresser!  DRESS TO IMPRESS!

In the community: Part of Steve’s life quest is to give back

A Salvation Army Advisory Board Member since 2016 and Development Committee Chairman, Steve attends two meetings per month to help guide and advise the Louisville Area Command in meeting the needs of those that the Salvation Army serves. Bell ringing with his family and participating in Angel Tree during the Christmas season are a few ways of giving back in addition to his Advisory Board duties.
